Hi, I’m Tom Favorite, your friendly neighborhood marketing guru and Chief Marketing Officer for Odds On Favorite, Creative Marketing Solutions. A little background about me. Over the past 20+  years I’ve successfully marketed a variety of businesses as a corporate lead as well as consultant to small and medium sized businesses. In that time, I’ve worked with all types of businesses from small to nation-wide retail stores, billion-dollar resorts, manufacturing and distribution, financial services, performing arts, real estate & construction. Plus my own business, a. favorite design, the wholesale and retail letterpress greeting card business my wife and I started in 2007, which we recently moved to Albany Park.

What’s consistent with all these businesses? While they all require different marketing approaches the #1 goal is to get maximum exposure with the best return on investment.
We accomplish this by incorporating the best, most efficient opportunities to grow market reach and exposure by utilizing unique and efficient strategies.

In addition to understanding what makes the most sense for your business, we know our area and the city of Chicago intimately. Personally, I’m a Chicago native born & bred and I live in Albany Park with my wife Amber and our dog Scooby-Doo. Along with my wife, we own the community letterpress and greeting card shop, a. favorite design at 4432 North Kedzie.
I’ve lived here most of my life and have made amazing personal connections as well as deep professional roots, which connects us to some of the best in the business.

I love Chicago and our neighborhoods and I’m passionate to promote the businesses that make us unique and to help share our vibrant community. Small & medium sized businesses truly have a unique opportunity that the corporate juggernauts don’t have, which is the connection to the surrounding community. If you have a quality product or service and can create a connection to your community, they’ll gladly bypass the faceless option to support a neighbor and can be fiercely loyal once the connection is made.

In my experience, for many businesses, marketing and promotion is not a top priority. Understandably, the top priority is doing what you were so passionate about in the first place that made you take the leap and create a business to nurture your soul. Unfortunately, that means you’re marketing or advertising only when you can fit it in, you’re being sold advertising that doesn’t fit the business and/or there’s little consistency to the messaging or story, which makes it really tough to grow. Simply because no one knows about the business or the audience gets the wrong impression. You may have the greatest product or service in the world but you’ll never grow if no one knows about it or if your messaging is weak or inconsistent.  

Also small and medium-sized businesses require a cost-efficient marketing plan tailored to their needs. You can spend a lot of money on a variety of options but if it’s missing the mark and producing marginal results, the dollars spent are not worth the trouble. I imagine you started your business because you’re really good at what you do and saw the opportunity to make a living doing what you love. I believe you should be able to focus on doing what you love. You’re an expert and passionate about what you do, you should have an expert at marketing whose equally passionate about promoting your business, otherwise you’re missing out.
